Great for women with allergies or vaginal irritations, GladRags cotton reusable day pads are a healthy alternative to disposable feminine protection. These organic pads are made of premium quality cotton flannel and terry cloth, offering you even more comfort and protection. Lasting 5+ years, GladRags are easy on the pocket book, while also using minimal resources.
GladRags holders are made out of cotton flannel fitted with a snap and “envelope” for the inserts. GladRags inserts consist of super absorbent terry cloth and flannel.
To Use GladRags Reusable Menstrual Pads:
1. Place 1 or 2 of the inserts inside the holder.
2. Turn your GladRag over. Snap it around your underwear. The tag side goes next to your underwear and the smooth side goes next to your body.
3. Change your GladRag (holder and inserts) about as often as you would a disposable pad.
How should I clean them?
It's simple, just pre-rinse, then machine wash and dry.
Here are the specifics:
Remove the liners from the holder.
Soak or pre-rinse the GladRags in cold water.
If you're leaving them to soak, change the water daily. (You can pour the soak water over houseplants; it's a great fertilizer. This is where your unenlightened friends will think you've gone over the edge).
Then machine-wash and dry them with your other laundry. Please wash your GladRags before the initial use. The pads will shrink a bit in the first washing. The color pads won't stain much. The undyed pads will stain a bit. We recommend the non-chlorine bleaches that can be found in your local health food stores.
How do I get the stains out?
We recommend any of the oxygen-based whiteners that are great alternatives to chlorine bleach. They can be found at any natural foods market or most grocery stores. The best way to prevent stains is to soak or rinse GladRags immediately so the stains do not set.
These products have also been suggested by GladRags users: borax, lemon juice, vinegar, or the sun. Also, keep in mind that stains do not mean the pads are dirty. The organic colors are dark and rich and don’t show stains much at all if that is a concern for you.
How many do I need?
Menstrual cycles vary greatly from woman to woman. Most women use 6 to 12 day pads and 1 to 3 night pads. It all depends on your flow and how often you do laundry. Change your GladRags as often as you would change a disposable, and remember - a pad consists of the holder and 2 liners, and so you must change the whole thing, not just the liners.
